what gun for collegete trap?

Brett

My son just started college and is starting to shoot trap.

At the collegete championships they shoot american trap and international trap.  Is there a shotgun or two that you would recommend that he could use for both events?  Or is it better to use say a BT-99 for the 16 yard event and an o/u for the international event?

I'm leaning toward the Browning brand since they cost less.  We already have the skeet gun nailed down.

Good luck and many thanks for help on theis website.

Browning makes some very good guns and I like the BT-99.  If your son shoots ATA now I would use the same gun and then find a gun for bunker.  If you want one gun for both you will have to compromise.  Most ATA guns are set up to shoot alot higher than your average bunker gun.  A high rib gun and/or a high shooting gun is going to make your bunker shooting tough.  Best case they are different games shot differently so shoot different guns.  Sorry this is so short but I have to catch a plane to Spain for World Cup Finals, any more questions let me know and I'll get back to you in about 10 days.

Thanks

Re: what gun for collegete trap?
I too vote for the Browning, but I would go for the 30" XT and use it in both disciplines. It is high enough for ATA, and flat enough for Bunker. I have seen this gun in action in both disciplines, and think it is one of the best guns out there for the money. It is sturdy enough for high volume shooting, and is VERY easy to service and maintain. It shoots pretty close to 60/40 - 70/30, and as far as fit, IT'S A BROWNING!
