Re: Coaches
BunkerG,

I'm looking to do both, actually.  As I help out with Ontelaunee Rod & Gun Club, in Pennsylvania, we would like to be able to have a clinic from time to time for our shooters.  It has been frustrating watching some folks stagnate and drift away from the sport because they've gotten to a plateau that they cannot get past without help of a kind beyond the abilities of our local shooters.  And personally, I'm looking for some technical assistance that won't cost me an airline ticket and hotel stay.

Now, to be perfectly honest, I'm not 100% clear on how to define "QUALIFIED".  There are a fair number of good shooters out there.  However, ones who can teach what they know are rare; and those who can teach within the framework of a shooter's established style are rarer still.  I do know that I'm looking for someone who is - at heart - an instructor who can look, see what's wrong and then suggest more than one way to correct the fault.  And ideally, this individual would be familiar with the mechanics of vision as they relate to shooting.  Finally, it'd be great if they were within an eight-hour drive of eastern Pennsylvania - since we all know that most people forget most of what they hear only once.  The person doesn't have to be a National or Olympic Team member, just good enough to demonstrate a thorough familiarity with the mechanics of the game sufficient to instruct.  And, of course, they need to be able to communicate effectively.

I hope I've answered your question.

Re: Coaches
This is a game of relaxation and frustration managment, and handle distrations or ignore them. Nothing worse than having a good round going at two in the afternoon and having the butterflies show up at station one and five, and they just hover their. The roof and shadows are part of Ontelaunee along with the quick release, maybe a trip to Ga. Va. or Ohio and give yourself a chance to make the top six to see how you handel the pressure of compitition. As soon as you master one aspect something else jumps up and bites you, keep it simple and eliminate the distractions.

Re: Coaches
Voolfie, I'd say you described the perfect coach. I'd add to that being able to apply the right amount of motivation and support to the athlete. Tell you when you got something right and guide you through the slumps. When you get your clinic organized, let me know. I need all the help I can get! Hal H
