Beretta s58s

Greetings All

Just purchased a 1975 Beretta s58s trap gun. 30" barrels, mod and full. Tight action and lever still out to the right. I guess it was the model before the 680. How different is the s58s to the early, silver 682's?

Meanwhile, are longer forcing cones really necessary? Where is the evidence that they produce better patterns; particularly as the shot is protected by a wad as it leaves the chamber? What about tubes larger than 18.4mm; how are the larger bores supposed to improve patterns and reduce recoil in 24gram loads? I'm not certain that I can tell the difference when using the same loads...

What about gun balance? My s58s weighs in at 8 lbs and is, pretty much, balancing on the hinge pin. If anything; it's a tad barrel heavy. Thoughts on gun weight and balance?

Re: Beretta s58s
Bet most folks here have never seen one and can't compare it to the 680 series. Beretta has been sticking with a pretty successful design for a long time in that line of guns. You may have better luck on another board, or if you can find a copy of the Beretta book it may show some pictures and have a description as well. V/R Maxey

Re: Beretta s58s
I believe the s58s was sold in the US as a Beretta BL4; same gun, but a black receiver...

Re: Beretta s58s
Most of the BL4s I've seen in the US are more of a field gun. Sling swivels, field forend, etc. Still a great gun and stout for years of trouble free shooting. V/R Maxey
